Today’s Good News And Bad News
From Our Local Political Junkie We’ll Call “Cincy Dave”

NO CAMPAIGNIS INTERRUPTUS FOR TRUMP
image009Amid calls from many Republicans for him to drop out of the presidential race, The Donald has been adamant that he will not. “I’d never withdraw. I’ve never withdrawn in my life,” Trump told The Washington Post in a phone call from his home in Trump Tower in New York. “No, I’m not quitting this race. I have tremendous support.” Meanwhile after Speaker Paul Ryan disinvited Trump from a Wisconsin campaign event, Mike Pence was supposed to go in his stead. However, yesterday, Pence decided not to attend. Even if Trump did decide to quit, the Republicans wouldn’t be able to replace him at this late date. Filing deadlines to get on the ballot have all passed by now, ballots have been printed and a significant percentage of votes have already been cast in many states by either early voting or mail-in votes.

MORE DETAILS ON THE PUSSYGATE image008SCANDAL
Changing their editorial policy from the previous day, the Washington Post decided to show the whole unedited videotape of Trump’s bawdy remarks, and just in case you didn’t hear it right, it is annotated in plain Anglo-Saxon English. The second video in the link is a more extended clip of Trump’s comments. Billy Bush, the host on the tape, is a cousin of Dubya Bush. He has said that he is highly embarrassed at his own actions in going along with The Donald in the video but his excuse is that he was young at the time. No so Trump, who was about 59.

MCCAIN DUMPS TRUMP
image010Poor old John McCain has been maligned by Trump before yet stood by him out of some sense of loyalty to his party, but this last scandal is the limit. We think McCain’s wife told him she couldn’t stand Trump any longer, so the war hero that wasn’t a hero to Trump has finally disavowed him. McCain joins a whole herd of Republican congressmen, senators and other politicians heading for the exits. Most of them are already on record as endorsing or even praising Trump and their opponents this year are going to have good material to use against them. For Republicans who are up for election this year, which includes all in the house and a big bunch in the senate, it’s now everyone for themselves. The Trump disaster that was predicted a year ago and that many feared may finally be upon them.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN TONIGHT’S DEBATE
image011Trump, who his campaign manager called “the Babe Ruth of Debating,” struck out last time and his only chance to win tonight is to swing for the fences. He is virtually certain to bring up almost every Bill Clinton sex scandal that anyone ever heard of and maybe a few that nobody has heard of in an attempt to deflect from his ballooning scandal. This will be called the “Bill Clinton did it too” defense. Hillary will try to stay calm and collected, and will remind viewers that Bill is not running for president this year. All the other issues or questions are likely to seem trivial or boring by comparison and the only thing people will probably remember about this debate is Trump trying desperately to find a way out of a big mess by a combination of apologies, excuses and, mostly, attacks on Bill and Hillary. This is probably The Babe’s final at bat, because even though a Fox News employee is the moderator of debate #3, it won’t count for much, coming less than two weeks before Election Day. By then, possibly 20 percent of ballots may have already been cast. Maybe The Babe will hit a grand slam home run tonight, but the odds are agin’ it.

TODAY’S MEANINGLESS STATE POLLS
Any pre-PussyGate polls like these are especially meaningless.image005
