Today’s Good News And Bad News
From Our Local Political Junkie We’ll Call “Cincy Dave”
HOW PENCE GOT THE JOB: A mechanical malfunction may have changed history. Due to mechanical problems, Trump’s plane was grounded in Indiana last week and it was too late for Trump to take a commercial flight home, so Mike Pence invited him to stay the night at the governor’s mansion. Trump accepted and then ordered his children to come to Indiana on one of his “other” private jets to join him. The next morning, the families were enjoying a leisurely breakfast when Pence seized the opportunity to go into a vicious attack on Billary. Trump and family liked what they saw – a rabid attack dog that they thought would help them. It must have been a good speech because it is widely known that the other two major contenders for VP, Krispy Kreme Christie and the Newtster are accomplished attack dogs in their own right.
BAD NEWS FOR TRUMP/PENCE? News media have begun digging into the background of Mike Pence and found a little bit of fertile dirt. Unfortunately, the dirt is over 25 years old. As a beginning congressional candidate back in the late ‘80s, he was caught using campaign funds to pay his mortgage and his wife’s car payments. Due to a glitch in the law, it was only illegal at the time for incumbents but not for challengers. Therefore, there were no charges but he did lose the election when the voters found out about it. The result was some changes in Federal Election laws to prohibit such behavior. He lost his first 2 elections for congress because of that issue and the fact that he used some dirty tricks on his opponent, such as falsely claiming that his opponent was selling his family farm to build a nuclear waste dump. He later apologized profusely to everyone and vowed not to do anymore negative campaigns. He will almost certainly break that vow during this campaign.
GOOD NEWS FOR HILLARY: The stock market set another new all-time record on Friday, Wall Street Bears are unhappy. “It’s the Obama stock market,” said one Wall Street Short-Seller, “it’s killing us.” “This is all Obama’s fault,” said another. “It’s been nothing but, up, up, up since a few months after he took office.” “I sure miss the good old days of George W. Bush – he really knew how to mismanage the economy.” He added, “We haven’t had a decent recession in the last 6 or 7 years. – Where is Herbert Hoover when you need him?”
Gas prices are down again too, below $2-per-gallon in many places. This is also Obama’s fault. One oil company executive stated that things were so bad they probably wouldn’t be able to clear 30 billion dollars this quarter, due to falling pump prices. He is hoping that President Trump will look into banning electric and hybrid car production so they can get demand and prices back up to where they ought to be, in the 4 to 5 dollar per gallon range, like they were in 2008. Those were the good old days.
Thankfully, we have the Greater Cincinnati Gasoline Dealers Association working hard to keep prices around here well above $2, so we won’t have to suffer the problems of gas being too cheap.
HILLARY ANNOUNCES CONVENTION SPEAKERS: Here is a list of main speakers for the Democrat Convention, which is the week following the Republican Convention:
Monday: Bernie and Michelle Obama
Tuesday: The wannabe first “First Gentleman,” the Big Dog himself
Wednesday: The President and the Vice President
Thursday: Chelsea Clinton and Hillary
WHAT TO WATCH FOR AT THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION: There is no suspense about who the candidates will be so the only things to look for are protests inside the convention and outside. Inside, the Dump Trump folks, having lost on procedural issues, still vowed to create as much trouble as possible. We will see what form that will take – maybe disruption of Trump’s speech or a walkout or something else. Also, watch the speeches that are given (by people other than his children) for how little they talk about Trump and how much they talk about everything else. Of particular interest will be the speech from Ted Cruz, who hates Trump with a purple passion. Will he say anything good about Trump? Of course, he wants Trump to lose, so he can be the nominee in 2020. Why Trump put him on as a speaker is a mystery. Outside, many protests are being planned in order to draw national attention to all of Trump’s evils. The media sure to make the most of the protests and characterize any disturbance as a riot. Ohio is an open-carry state so will the gun-rights advocates show up fully locked and loaded? Will they or the cops start shooting? Hopefully not, but it’s a possibility.
