There’s No Good News For Anybody Today

Hillary’s apparent good news that she was not a crook was short-lived as the Speaker of the House announced that they would be holding hearings on the F.B.I. investigation to find out why she would not be indicted. So, there will be an investigation of the investigation, that was the result of the last investigation into the Benghazi affair that was the 8th investigation of Hillary about that incident. Not to be deterred, when Republicans don’t get the answer they want, they just keep on doing the same thing. What was that definition of insanity? You have to give them credit for being tenacious anyway. So, the new investigation will last at least until Election Day, but probably much longer. Maybe their real goal is to make sure Hillary is a one-term president. That worked so well with Obama.

Skeptics and cynics might say that this would just be another partisan fishing expedition, intended to damage a presidential candidate but they would say no, it’s about her lying, which everyone knows is not exactly rare among politicians of either stripe. The last honest politician was probably Harry Truman, and the last honest Republican politician was almost certainly Abraham Lincoln. (He was also the last honest lawyer) If lying was a crime, then every member of congress would be in jail right now. If lying was a crime, Nixon and LBJ would have both been given the electric chair, and Trump would be serving life without parole. But Hillary lied, no question about it, so we have to spend another umpteen million dollars of over-taxed payer funds to find out what everyone already knows – politicians lie. Just like they spent 80 million dollars back in the ‘90s to find out that Bill Clinton liked women (he lied about that) which anyone who was not in a coma already knew. But, they will tell us that it’s not about politics, it’s about getting to the truth. People who got where they are by lying are now concerned with truth. We head that El Chapo is concerned about drugs too, and Dr. Mengele was concerned about health care.

Bad news for Bernie too. Probably no one except Trump was as disappointed with the F.B.I. report as Bernie was. He was hoping and praying (even though he is an atheist) that somehow, someway, he could get the nomination by way of a Hillary disqualification. Now, he really has to face reality, because, like Trump, his only real hope is a Hillary heart attack or stroke. Worse than that, for Bernie, the stroke would have to come before the convention, now less than 3 weeks away, whereas Trump has all the way to election day to hope for it.

Trump continues to make unforced errors in his speeches and tweets. Yesterday, he praised Saddam Hussein, who he said killed terrorists without reading them their rights or talking, etc. He apparently didn’t know that Saddam was on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and therefore was a terrorist himself, not to mention a mass-murderer of his own people. Trump likes strongmen, as he had previously praised Putin too and obviously fancies himself in their image.

In related news, the British finally came out with their report on the causes of the Iraq War – only 13+ years later. It surprisingly found that the cause was faulty intelligence and a rush to military action before diplomatic options were used up. Also, the fact that Tony Blair was Bush’s poodle was another factor, although the report didn’t put it in exactly those terms. The British might investigate slowly but they do manage to come up with the correct answers. The British report on the causes of the Boer War is due out next year, followed in 2020 by the report on the causes of the War of 1812.
