The Difference Between Knowing Your Shit and Knowing You’re Shit
Every year around this time the Whistleblower’s Garrulous Grammarian tries to explain the proper way to spell Friday’s Federal Holiday, and every year we see examples of how all those people don’t seem to get the word. Obviously, they must not be Persons of Consequence who subscribe to the Whistleblower Newswire.
So which is the correct way to spell Wednesday’s Federal Holiday you might even see mentioned in The Fishwrap or on TV?
Is it
A. Veterans Day
B. Veteran’s Day
or C. Veterans’ Day
The answer is “A. Veterans Day,” which does not include an apostrophe but does include an “s” at the end of “veterans,” because it is not a day that “belongs” to veterans, it’s a day for honoring all veterans.
So whenever you see it written with an apostrophe (either “Veteran’s Day” or “Veterans’ Day”), it would be incorrect.
And we’re not just talking about Dumbed-Down, Self-Absorbed, Media-Influenced, Celebrity-Obsessed, Politically-Correct, Uninformed, Short-Attention-Span, Free-Stuff Grabbing, Low-Information Obama Supporters Who Put The Positively Worst President in History In The White House—Twice, and Planned To Give Obama a Third Term By Voting For Hillary, and get all of their information from our Obama Supporters in the Press, like the ones on Channel 5, 9, 12, and 19, who can’t spell “Veterans Day” correctly. We’re also talking about all those really big companies that spend all that money on advertising and still can’t spell the name of the holiday correctly, like last year when this incorrectly spelled Kroger ad on the front page of Sunday’s Fishwrap. Shouldn’t someone at that worthless rag would have noticed?
