Today’s Good News And Bad News
From Our Local Political Junkie We’ll Call “Cincy Dave”

BAD NEWS FOR HILLARY
image006While in Cleveland yesterday, Hillary had another coughing fit, which she claimed was an allergic reaction to Trump. This is sure to be cited as more evidence that she is in poor health. Watch for Trump and his supporters to bring it up at the earliest opportunity.

MORE BAD NEWS FOR HILLARY
Julian Assange, the creator of Wikileaks, who is hiding out in London to avoid being arrested on rape charges, has vowed a huge Wikileaks dump on Hillary just before the 3rd debate to do maximum damage to her. That debate is scheduled for October 19. The aptly named “dump” will be eagerly awaited by Trump partisans and with trepidation by Hillary supporters.

NEW PLANE FOR HILLARY
Well, it’s not exactly new. It’s a leased Boeing image033737, which is a relic from the ‘60s, although many versions have since been produced. It is painted with her “Stronger Together” slogan and has her logo on the tail. It is also big enough to accommodate a large number of reporters. The plane’s first campaign flight was to Cleveland yesterday and, interestingly, was parked next to Trump’s plane for a while, because he was also in Cleveland, although the two candidates didn’t actually cross paths.  [MORE]

TRUMP FLIP-FLOPS AGAIN
Last week, the Trumpster said that all illegal immigrants would all have to leave, but this week he again tried to have it both ways. Asked about whether he could rule out a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants, “I’m not ruling out anything,” Trump said. “We’re going to make that decision into the future.

image039CONTRIBUTION OR BRIBE?
Yesterday, we told you about a $25,000 donation from the Trump foundation to Florida Attorney General Bondi, who was considering filing charges in the Trump University fraud case. After receiving the donation she decided not to file any charges, against the advice of veteran state investigators. Later, Trump denied even speaking to her. Trump’s claim never to have spoken to Bondi about the contribution is flatly contradicted Bondi’s own representatives who told the AP last month that she personally reached out to Trump solicit the campaign contribution. This would never have come to light if Trump had not paid the “donation” from his charity, the Trump Foundation, which is illegal. But there is even more to the story – the same thing happened with the Texas Attorney General, now the Governor, who accepted a $35,000 donation Clay Bennett editorial cartoonbefore also declining to file fraud charges against Trump University. AGs in New York State and California, were not so easily influenced however, possibly because they were not Republicans. Both state AGs filed the charges and the cases are ongoing. One thing is telling about the Florida incident – Trump never donated any money to the Florida AG either before or since that incident and the very idea that he would be so interested in some minor state official’s campaign for no reason is kind of ridiculous.

DEBATES
Trump agreed to participate in all 3 debates – maybe, unless there is a natural disaster. However he is not preparing for the debates in any meaningful way, apparently intending to try to get by with personal insults as he did with the Republican primary debates.image041

DUTERTE CURSES OBAMA
Philippine president Duterte cursed Obama because of Obama’s statements about Duterte’s extra-judicial killings in his war on drugs. Duterte, cursed Obama in Tagalog, his native language, which was translated as, “you son-of-a-bitch.” Others translated it as “you son-of-a-whore.” Duterte has often been compared to Donald Trump, with some calling him “the Donald Trump of Asia,” due to his bombastic, vulgar and bullying manner.  Later, Duterte said that he regretted his remarks

TRUMP SUPPORTER DIES
Well, not just any supporter but the infamous Phyllis Schlafly, age 92, the woman that almost single-handedly stopped the Equal Rights Amendment for Women from being adopted image024back in the ‘70s. As a consequence, a whole generation of women were denied many opportunities they might otherwise have had. Shhlafly was also, along with Jerry Falwell, considered as having a big part in transforming the Republican party from a party of fiscal responsibility, into a party primarily concerned with other people’s morals and personal life, the so-called “Family Values Party.” Schlafly opposed the ERA because she believed it would open the door to gay marriage, abortion, combat roles for women, co-ed bathrooms and the end of labor laws that barred women from dangerous workplaces. So, although successful in preventing the ERA from becoming part of the constitution, she lived long enough to see almost everything that it was supposed to cause happen without it. She believed that a woman’s place was in the home, taking care of the kids, as she herself roamed the country speaking against women’s rights while her own six children were being raised by nannies. Now image025there was a woman that really practiced what she preached. Like Falwell, few will miss her.

FOX NEWS EATS CROW
In a negotiated settlement of her lawsuit against Fox News, Gretchen Carlson, former Foxy Fox host will receive $20 million and a public apology from Fox News. Carlson had alleged sexual harassment by Roger Ailes, the head of Fox News, and a locker-room culture at Fox. There are likely many more former Fox women waiting to get on this gravy train. The irony here is that virtually all of them were willing to claim that sexual harassment didn’t actually exist in America’s workplaces before being fired themselves.
