Today’s Good News And Bad News
From Our Local Political Junkie We’ll Call “Cincy Dave”
Nate Silver at Fivethirtyeight says Trump has gained about 2 points on Hillary’s lead so it’s too early for her to try to run out the clock. He gives Trump a 19 percent chance to win vs. 11 percent a couple of weeks ago.
MORE GOOD NEWS FOR TRUMP
Trump was correct when he said that the election may be rigged. But not by the Democrats – by his buddies, the Russians, who are strongly in his corner. The FBI has discovered that Russian hackers have penetrated election databases in two states – Arizona and Illinois. They can help him by screwing up the registrations of Democratic voters, so they will not be able to vote. Arizona would not make much difference but Illinois could have a big effect on the ultimate outcome of the election. We will know for certain if Illinois goes for Trump, something that is virtually impossible without it being rigged.
ANOTHER CAMPAIGN SHAKE-UP?
More dirt is coming out about Trump’s new campaign manager, Steve Bannon, the guy from Breitbart. He was accused of sexual harassment in the ‘90s but settled out of court. Also, there are allegations that he made anti-Semitic remarks to his ex-wife. The sexual harassment charge was a long time ago but the anti-Semitism will not sit well with Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband, who are Jewish and have a lot of influence in campaign decisions. Speculation is that Bannon/Breitbart may be gone soon, and possibly replaced by Trump’s former manager, Corey Lewandowski.
TRUMP WASTING TIME AGAIN
The Donald is holding a rally in Washington State today, a state that is almost impossible for him to win. Meanwhile, Hillary is doing debate prep, using psychologists to try to analyze Trump and also working with the guy who was the ghost writer for “The Art of the Deal”, a book which Trump claims he wrote himself. Trump says he will not do any debate prep because he doesn’t want to sound like he is scripted. We think he just doesn’t want to do any homework and thinks he can skate by on insults and bullying like he did in the Republican primaries. It will be fun to see how that works out.
Trump says he hires only the best but this is yet another one that questions that. He just hired a guy for his campaign, Bill Stepien, a former employee of N.J.Gov. Chris Christie, who was fired by Christie after being implicated in the Bridgegate scandal. That was the scandal where Christie’s staff ordered lanes closed off on the George Washington Bridge approach to New York on the first day of school, just to create a huge traffic mess for the mayor of Ft. Lee, New Jersey, a Democrat who had refused to support Christie’s reelection as governor. Stephien escaped being charged, as did Christie, but the trial of two others of Christie’s staff will begin in two weeks, and Stepien’s name is sure to come up in the trial, right in the middle of the presidential campaign.
TRUMP BLAMES HILLARY FOR LATEST WEINER SCANDAL
After Anthony Weiner was exposed again, exposing himself again on sexting messages for the third time, his wife, Huma Abedin, who is Hillary’s assistant, decided that she was done with him, so they are separating. Unbelievably, or we should say typically, The Donald actually found a way to accuse Hillary of being culpable in Weiner’s actions.
TODAY’S MEANINGLESS POLLS
As always, Ohio is the one that really counts here. It is well known that no Republican has ever won the presidency without winning Ohio, but what about Democrats? That has happened four times – Grover Cleveland (twice) JFK, and most amazingly, FDR in 1944. There is a good chance that this year could be the fifth time. Of all the swing states, the two most likely to go to Trump are NC and Ohio.
