Something Else Historical Could Happen on Today’s Date

image006Is the DemocRAT National Committee really adopting a resolution today expressing its support for the #BlackLivesDon’tMeanCrap movement on the same date Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I Have A Dream Speech?” Do you think Hillary and Bernie will be inviting this group of anarchists to speak at their Convention next year?

image006image005 For Dumbed-Down DemocRATS, August 28 has always been a fine day for disapproving demonstrators. Hurley the Historian remembers they had a little protest on that day in 1968 at the DemocRAT National Convention in Chicago, when tens of thousands of Vietnam War protesters battled police in the streets, while the DemocRAT Party fell apart over an internal disagreement concerning its stance on Vietnam. Over the course of 24 hours, the predominant American line of thought on the Cold War with the Soviet Union was shattered.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley deployed 12,000 police officers and called in another 15,000 state and federal officers to contain the protesters. The situation then rapidly spiraled out of control, with the policemen severely beating and gassing the demonstrators, as well as newsmen and doctors who had come to help. The ensuing riot, known as the “Battle of Michigan Avenue,” was caught on television, and sparked a large-scale change in American society. For the first time, many Americans came out in virulent opposition to the Vietnam War, which they had begun to feel was pointless and wrongheaded. No longer would people give the national government unrestrained power to pursue its Cold War policies at the expense of the safety of U.S. citizens.

“Jerry was really a dweeb in high school,” Kane remembered. “He always wore those white buck shoes and never showed up with a girl at any of the dances. Even Nick Nadel had a date sometimes.”image003image008
