What’s Next, No More Opening Day on TV?
Did our Feckless Fishwrappers actually stumble across what has been to most astute observers an obvious story about Fox19’s pulling out of their televised coverage arrangement of the 2015 Western & Southern/ WEBN fireworks? (“No TV broadcast for Riverfest Fireworks?”)
One need not be a digital sleuth to notice for the last several weeks the absence of the outdated Fox19 weather forecasts and rehashed night-before newscasts that tainted the information credibility of the WEBN family of stations.
The iHeart-less bastards, (formerly the Greedy Weasels) are skilled at throwing valuable employees under the bus. They certainly have no qualms about doing the same with a neophyte out-of-Market TV GM like Debbie Bush who doesn’t know the history and heritage of what is arguably one of the largest end-of-summer pollution-spewing local-TV-ratings bonanzas in the entire country.
Word is, when the new lady GM was told to “do something about the budget,” instead of trying to actually sell the event, she took the easy route.
There was a time that the local TV media trampled over themselves to obtain the rights to the visuals and was actually able to monetize the event.
The days of the clout of the Wood Family and Jacor’s Randy Michaels are long gone, as are the once-creative Joel Moss soundtracks and the quirky-and-clever imaging. Considering the consistent ratings position of the once Mighty FM, maybe it’s time to pull the plug not only on the broadcast , but the bumbling broadcaster’s barge too. Besides, Trish the Dish has always been confused about which side of the river the fireworks were on and the date.
To quote Q102 (WKRQ-FM) nighttime jock Mark Sebastian’s battle cry: “The Frog is Dead.”
NOTE: Former WLW Hate Radio’s Darryl Parks (now reduced to a Media and Culture Blogger) had nothing whatsoever to do with this story.
