Happy “I Day,” Everybody!

image004This afternoon in the Whistleblower Newsroom, Hurley the Historian was telling Beloved Whistleblower Publisher Charles Foster Kane to make sure The Blower reminded readers that on today’s date in 1945, the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, where 74,000 people died as a result of the attack, and effectively ended WWII.

image009Today, on the 71st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Time says the city’s mayor Tomihisa Taue pressed the international community to use its “collective wisdom” to rid the world of nuclear weapons, the Japan Times reports. “Now is the time for all of you to bring together as much of your collective wisdom as you possibly can, and act,” Taue said at the annual ceremony Peace Park. image009But then The Blower’s left-of-center political junkie we like to call “Cincy Dave” interrupted: There was another atomic bomb dropped on this date. If you aren’t old enough to remember (or too old to remember), it was the bomb that landed on the White House in 1974, ending the presidency of Richard Nixon.” After Nixon’s resignation, he was issued a pardon by his successor, Gerald Ford.

image009image006Kane agreed: Today was the only date any President ever actually resigned in disgrace, but these days unfortunately, since Obama has no shame and Republicans in Congress have no balls, the best we can do in 2016 is to wait for another 164 more days until Obama leaves office.

image009Then Cincy Dave explained: August 9, 1974 was the day Nixon finally resigned in the first-and-only successful impeachment of a president. Yeah, we know that he wasn’t technically impeached because the full House hadn’t voted yet, but the House Judiciary Committee did vote for a Bill of Impeachment, and passage was certain, as was conviction in the Senate.

image010Barry Goldwater (isn’t that a strange first name for a would-be president) had to tell Nixon the day before that it was all over, he was done and had to go. He could go easily (resign) or go hard (impeachment and conviction). He chose resignation. Although Tricky Dick declared for years that he was not a crook, everyone knew he was all along. He had presided one of the most corrupt administrations in history and lied more than any other president, with the possible exception of LBJ. Liberals have ever since celebrated “Impeachment Day” on August 9, when they no longer had Nixon to kick around anymore.

Ironically, Cincy Dave added, Nixon was more of a Liberal than any President since, Republican or DemocRAT, excepting the Black Guy that Republicans hate so much. So much so that Nixon would probably be declared a RINO in today’s politics. He started the EPA and proposed other liberal programs such as health care reform and job creation, although he did create the so-called Southern Strategy that has ruled Republican politics ever since.

image009image008And after 22 years of other, far worse, Republican Administrations (Ford 2, Reagan 8, Papa Bush 4, Dubya, 8 Total = 22) Liberals really miss Tricky Dick now. They would much rather have him as president than any of the 17 Republican candidates that tried for the nomination this year.

RIP Milhous, this is your day too!image003image006
