AN OBSCURE OHIO STATE LAW COULD SHAKE UP THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION
If Republican Establishment is planning to buy delegates on the convention floor in Cleveland to stop Donald Trump this July, they’d better be careful — they might be breaking the law in the state of Ohio.
Lawmakers passed the original law on bribery in state elections in 1871, but added language to “protect the elections of voluntary political associations” three years later, on the cusp of the contentious 1876 Republican convention in Cincinnati, which took seven ballots to crown a nominee.
“Purchases of votes for money have been openly made in the hall where conventions were held,” says an 1874 Cincinnati Enquirer story decrying people “who become delegates for no purpose in the world but to sell their votes to the highest bidder” at local conventions.
RELIGIOUS GROUP GIVES KASICH GIANT FLUSH ON BATHROOM BILL
GOP presidential hopeful John Kasich apparently is confused about the principle behind North Carolina’s “bathroom law,” the head of the National Religious Broadcasters charged after the Ohio governor urged citizens engaged in the conflict between the gay agenda and religious liberty to “chill out.” “Clearly, rather than ‘chill out,’ Gov. Kasich needs to study the North Carolina law – as well as the recent Georgia bill,” said Jerry A. Johnson, the president of the NRB. “We commend North Carolina for protecting its citizens in public restrooms, which is a public safety matter, not a religious liberty issue. “But I’m deeply concerned that Gov. Kasich appears to not understand very well critical religious liberty issues. He is either naïve or poorly informed. Indeed, this is not the first time the governor has spoken in a less-than clear way about religious liberty,” Johnson said.
THE WORST JOB IN AMERICA
NEW YORK (FOX5NY) – A new survey of the best and worst jobs in the country has declared that being a newspaper reporter is the worst career you could be pursuing. It cited fewer job prospects because of publications going out of business and declining ad revenue providing less money for decent salaries. The survey put the annual median salary of a print reporter at $37,200. It is the third year in a row that a newpaper reporter ranked as the worst job. Being a broadcaster didn’t fare much better. It came in third worst on the list.
