…And Finally Being Told To Grow Up Or Get Out!
Monday in The Blower’s “Chaos on Campus” E-dition, we published a list of 65 universities and colleges across America where Radical Black Activists are organizing protests and mayhem (including the Insane8 at UC our Feckless Fishwrappers keep promoting every chance they get). Since then, at one of those 65 Safe Spaces for Stupid Students, the “Masters” of Harvard’s 12 undergraduate residential Houses have caved in to the Campus Crazies by unanimously agreeing to change their “Masters” title, a term some students mistakenly claim is associated with slavery.
Not included on The Blower’s Wimps List is Oklahoma Wesleyan University, where according to the New York Daily News, President Everett Piper has an incendiary message to politically correct students: Grow up or get out.
“This is not a day care,” Piper wrote in a fiery blog post on the school’s website last week, when he railed against a student who said he felt “victimized” by an on-campus sermon about love. The sermon was on the Bible passage 1 Corinthians 13, which includes the verse “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” The sermon was about love
“It appears that this young scholar felt offended because a homily on love made him feel bad for not showing love,” Piper wrote in his post. “I’m not making this up. Our culture has actually taught our kids to be this self-absorbed and narcissistic.”
“This is a university!” Piper said. “Any time their feelings are hurt, they are the victims!…If you want the chaplain to tell you you’re a victim rather than tell you that you need virtue, this may not be the university you’re looking for.”
Piper insists the school is “not a so-called ‘safe space,” but rather, a place to learn….This is a place where you quickly learned that you need to grow up!” Piper said he doesn’t support “the shouting down of a contrary idea rather than a civil and polite exchange disagreement” because he believes respectful discourse is a foundation of academia. “A liberal arts academy is about learning. It’s not supposed to be a place to suppress controversial ideas,” Piper said. My point was to challenge my own industry — to look my academic peers in the eye and say: ‘We’ve caused this.'”
Piper’s post has been viewed more than half a million times on the college’s website since it was posted on November 23.
This is hardly Piper’s first firebomb editorial against liberal values. As a weekly columnist for Bartlesville’s Examiner-Enterprise, the university president has written recent editorials criticizing transgender activism, defending law-breaking Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis and opposing the Supreme Court’s legalization of gay marriage.
Oklahoma Wesleyan is not a ‘safe place,’ but rather, a place to learn: to learn that life isn’t about you, but about others,” Piper wrote in his post, which he said has been viewed more than half a million times on the college’s website since it was posted on Nov. 23.
Piper said some have disagreed with him, but parents of students at the school of 1,700 have been supportive, as have others who work in education.
“I’ve had … faculty across the country say ‘thank you, it was about time someone said this,'”
