JAN 20 THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS

NEARLY TWENTY-NINE YEARS AGO TODAY…

image004Edition #56 (published on June 25, 1991) of the original printed edition of The Whistleblower (not the Newswire) was delivered to Persons of Consequence all over town. It was our Hard-Hitting and Informative Issue, and our Really Big Story was all about Cincinnati Post columnist David Wecker’s plans to quit his job to become a male exotic dancer; a promo for the all-new Whistleblower Limerick Contest. Our Top Ten List listed the top ten funny comments overhead at that Sunday morning’s Sander Hall demolition at UC. Plus there was more news about the Whistleblower Newsroom Challenge, along with Loudmouth Larry’s Outrage of the Week.image006

Page Two with Real Editorials by Publisher Charles Foster Kane about “The Schottzie Syndrome” following The Enquirer’s front page coverage of Marge Schott’s dog’s illness. Real Facts reported how much money then-Congressman “The Schottzie Syndrome” was making from his outside speaking fees. We named the seven fledgling falcons roosting atop the Cincinnati Commerce Center. Plus there was a story about the high cost of Political Correctness at UC.image008

Page Three featured Cheap Shots at Family Feudmeister Ray Combs, Karla Irvine, executive director at HOME, and Cincinnati City Manager Gerald Newfarmer; along with another Real Guest Editorial by Bunky Tadwell (this one about baccalaureates, an event few students could understand and none could spell.)image010

Page Four was for our regular weekly Real Letters From Real Readers column, Another Exclusive Whistleblower Report told about Hamilton County’s top secret public relations plan to break the lease at the Alms and Doepke building. Plus there was a story about the Butler County Sheriff telling people that masturbation was illegal.image012

Page Five featured Ken Camboo’s Bluegrass Holler reporting on former President Zachary Taylor, who was still dead; talk about Newport officials doubling their salaries; and Newport’s new ant-nude dancing law. Northern Kentucky Bureau Chief J.R. Hatfield told about things that were more trouble than they were worth. There was also an item about a guy who got busted for selling pornographic videos at this army surplus store.image014

And Page Six included Hotline Hang-ups (some of the anonymous calls received on the Whistleblower Hotline, and in Real Gossip by Linda Libel, we heard more about Marge Schott’s dog’s illness, below which was a Channel 9 ad featuring Randy Little.image016
