Mess Call was 1200 this afternoon…
for members of the Anderson Veterans Society of all races, creeds, and sexual orientations on the Fourth Annual Veterans Day Grub Craw, which had begun at 0600 outside Ohio Second District Congressman’s “Bronze Star Brad” Wenstrup’s Office located at 7954 PFC James Miller IV and Staff Sergeant Richard T. Pummill Memorial Highway (aka Beechmont Avenue), so Anderson Veterans could visit every one of the 487 area restaurants in Anderson and the surrounding tri-state areas offering Free Food for Veterans on Veterans Day 2017.
Our first stop for Lunch at 1200 (that’s noon for civilians) was a FREE Order of Wings & Side of Fries with some Navy SEALs Veterans at Buffalo Wild Wings. We probably would’ve preferred the Market Buffet at Belterra, except their Veterans Day promotion was yesterday on November 10.
Then at 1300 (1 PM for Draft Dodgers), we were enjoying chicken crispers and Chicken Bacon Ranch Quesadillas with Army Ranger Veterans at Chili’s in Harper’s Station, wherever the hell that was.
Then at 1400 (2 PM for Deserters) , it was back to Anderson with Air Force Pathfinders Veterans for a special menu with options like Fiesta Lime Chicken,, Butcher Meat and Potatoes, and Double Crunch Shrimp at Applebee’s.
Then at 1500 (3 PM for Dishonorable Dischargees), we scarfed down Chicken Parmigiana, Lasagna Classico, or Cheese Ravioli, with Unlimited Soup or Salad and breadsticks with PFC Kadon and his Marine Corps Raiders Veterans at Olive Garden.
But unfortunately at 1600 (4 PM for Cowards Who Never Served), members of the Anderson Veterans Society Grub Crawl couldn’t enjoy a free chili dog and a small Pepsi beverage with the Coast Guard Deployable Operations Veterans at Wienerschnitzel, because those restaurants are predominately located in California and Texas, and anyway, we didn’t want to spoil our dinner with all that free food we were all looking forward to this evening.
Remember Veterans Day Today and Thank Every Veteran You Meet
It’s the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us Freedom of Religion.
It’s the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us Freedom of the Press.
It’s the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us Freedom of Speech.
It’s the VETERAN, not the community organizer, who has given us Freedom to Assemble.
It’s the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It’s the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you’re reading it in English, try thanking a VETERAN.
For Love of Country
When Hurricane Isabel approached the Capitol in September 2003, our US House and Senate took two days off because they “couldn’t work.”
ABC-TV Evening News reported that, because of the dangers from the storm approaching Washington, DC, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were also given permission to suspend their assignment.
They refused: “No way, Sir!” Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment; it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a service person.
The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930. We can all be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve. God Bless them.
On the other hand, we’re waiting to see how long it takes for all those honorable men and women in Congress to vote themselves another pay raise before they can repeal ObamCare or pass Trump’s Tax Cuts. It will be the umpteenth freaking year in a row.
