Today’s Good News And Bad News

From Our Local Political Junkie We’ll Call “Cincy Dave”

TRUMP’S ECONOMIC ADVISERS ARE ALSO HIS BIGGEST DONORS
image008Surprise! It’s pay to play all over again. Last week Trump unveiled his list of 13 biggest donors economic advisors. They are basically a bunch of billionaires, – hedge fund managers and the like that hit the jackpot with everyone else’s money and who have made huge donations to Trump’s campaign. Trump has really changed his tune since early in the campaign. Here’s what he said last year on CBS’s“Face the Nation”: “The hedge fund guys didn’t build this country. These are guys that shift paper around. And they get lucky. Look, they’re energetic. They’re very smart. But a lot of them, it’s, like, they’re paper pushers. They make a fortune. They pay no tax. It’s ridiculous, OK?” Interestingly, the donors advisers are all men (of course) and oddly, 5 of the 13 are named Steve. They are all expected to advocate lowering taxes on the ultra-rich. That’s another big surprise.

BAD NEWS FOR TRUMP?

image006Yesterday, on CBS’s “Face the Nation”, Arizona Senator Jeff Flake said that The Donald risks losing Arizona.  He cited Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants and about the Khan Family as factors.  He said also that Trump should apologize to the Khan family.    He  noted that Bill Clinton won Arizona in 1996, so a win by Hillary is possible.     A Trump loss in reliably Republican Arizona would be part of a landslide victory for Hillary.  A recent state poll puts Trump ahead but it’s still a long way to November.

DONALD TRUMP IS WRONG

Trump claims the election is going to be rigged but rigging an election is almost impossible, according to a WP article.  (“Donald Trump is wrong. Rigging an election is almost impossible.”)

HILLARY LIES VS. TRUMP’S LIES

image010Anyone paying attention should know that both candidates have a mendacity problem but for some reason many people think that Hillary is more dishonest than The Donald.  Nicholas Kristof in the NYT takes a look and concludes that Hillary is a junior varsity liar compared with the champ of prevarication. One interesting detail in this analysis is that it explains where the “sniper fire” lie came from.   [READ MORE]

Finally, speaking of lies, this may be the granddaddy of them all.  Back in April, Trump said that in eight years he would be able to pay off the national debt, which currently stands at 19.4 Trillion dollars.

Considering the yearly tax revenue of 3.3 Trillion, it would take ¾ of the federal budget, leaving little for the Military, Medicare, veterans benefits or any of the hundreds of other things the government does.   Moreover, he was going to do this while cutting taxes.

(“In a revealing interview, Trump predicts a ‘massive recession’ but intends to eliminate the national debt in 8 years”) This should be in a special category of lies beyond “pants on fire.”

And for everyone who is seriously worried about the national debt, and it has been a concern since the Great Depression, the debt now stands as a smaller percentage of GNP than it did at the end of World War II.   To see s a good article about the national debt and how we got to where we are now, CLICK HERE.

POLLS

Here are today’s meaningless state polls.   Nevada is the only swing state of the three, and it doesn’t have enough EVs to make any difference.image004
