Hurley the Historian says about this time for the past eight years, we’ve been reminded that in 1814, Francis Scott Key watched the rockets’ red glare in the skies above Fort McHenry in Maryland and America’s greatest hit was born, saying it’s too bad most Americans days including both Obamas couldn’t remember all the words without a teleprompter.
That’s because that’s when Francis Scott Key penned a poem which was later set to music and in 1931 that became America’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The poem, originally titled “The Defence of Fort McHenry,” was written after Key witnessed the Maryland fort being bombarded by the British during the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the sight of a lone U.S. flag still flying over Fort McHenry at daybreak, as reflected in the now-famous words of the “Star-Spangled Banner”: “And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.”
Yesterday, in the wake of widespread vandalism of statues across America over the last month following the False Narrative created by the Liberal Media Establishment at Charlottesville, Leftists spawned during the Obama Administration have broadened their aim to hit historical figures outside the Civil War-era.
The latest example is a Baltimore statue honoring Francis Scott Key, author of “The Star-Spangled Banner” — America’s national anthem.
