Special “Police Officers Memorial Day” E-dition –

Thursday, May 15, 2014

Happy Police Officers Memorial Day, Everybody!image004

  • The event is held each year in the United States on May 15 in honor of federal, state, and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. It is observed in conjunction with Police Week.

The idea of Peace Officers Memorial Day came into effect on October 1, 1961, when Congress asked the president to designate May 15 to honor law enforcement officers. President John F Kennedy signed the bill into law on October 1, 1962. Each year, the president of the United States proclaims May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week of each year during which such May 15 occurs as Police Week.

According to the Legal Information Institute, the president is requested to issue a proclamation to: designate May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day; to direct government officials to display the United States flag at half staff on all government buildings; and to invite state and local governments and the people to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

image006Two of The Blower’s Buddies helping our Boys in Blue all over the country these days are Scott Greenwood, a member of the American Civil Liberties Union national board, and Tom Streicher, former Cincinnati Police Chief. These days the country’s premiere policing team is in Albuquerque, New Mexico, helping that Breaking Bad city solve some of the same problems Cincinnati went through in 2001. Nobody else does this or has this same perspective, connecting to police, union, civil rights groups, and the City Administration. Their first order of business was to change policy and prevent officers from bringing their own weapons — including high-powered weapons — to work. Sunday’s Albuquerque story wound up on the front page above the fold. [SEE THAT STORY HERE] So where is The Fishwrap when our homegrown successes make the Queen City Proud?

In a related story, this week twelve students and two educators from Deer Park Community City School District participated in the “Game with a Cop” program when the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Cincinnati Reds to facilitate an exciting new program to help open dialogue between area law enforcement and community youth. “These students are our future, and I want to ensure they have opportunities like this they wouldn’t have otherwise. Positive interaction between students and our officers is key to building better community relations,” said Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil.

  • image008FRIDAY IS THE HAMILTON COUNTY RINO PARTY’S BIG LINCOLN-REAGAN DAY DINNER: Last year, all those backstabbing TEA Party Patriots protested the RINOs’ choice of Ohio’s ObamaCare-Loving Governor Kasich Taylor as the featured speaker. This year, maybe opponents of Same-Sex Marriage could protest Senator Rob “Fighting for Fagellas” Portman as the “Special Guest.”

Conservative Curmudgeon Stu Mahlin says, “Portman’s just another Dartmouth radical meddling in other people’s lives through government, in the tradition of Robert Reich and Timothy Geithner.”

  • HURLEY THE HISTORIAN says 41 years ago this week the Senate Watergate hearings began exploring the nature of Richard Nixon’s administration. These days as the Obama administration is being investigated, people needed to be reminded that nobody died at Watergate. Hurley says also on this date in this 1937, Madeleine Half-bright, America’s lesbian-looking first female Secretary of State, was born, and most people today are amazed that she only had to donate $26,000 to Bill Clinton’s campaign in 1992 to buy her appointment.
  • IN ANDERSON, Ohio Second District Congressman “Bronze Star Brad” Wenstrup sent out an e-mail to say he was saddened to report that less than 17% of registered voters cast a ballot in last week’s Primary Election. And what did he do to increase turnout? Was he even here to vote?

image009Also in Anderson, when Belterra Racino got some bad restaurant reviews on Facebook recently, Racetrack Randy said it was complete horseshit. The only valid complaint was about kids in restaurants. I  dont know about you, but it is kinda nice to actually be somewhere without a bunch of screaming kids running around. Are those people too stupid to just walk to the grandstands that are open and where kids are welcome. There is also betting outside, so you can bring your spawn of Satan and teach them how to bet on the ponies at a ripe young age. There’s nothing like a family that gambles together. Forgive my rant, but the food is awesome and the facilities are first rate. If you can’t handle leaving the kids at home, Chuck E. Cheese welcomes them.

And wouldn’t it be funny if John Coyne and all the usual suspects were smoking outside the Landing in New Richmond on Friday night, when the lady with a wooden leg said her daughter (one of the original strippers at Deja Vu) never missed a Preakness and Clem from Clermont asked the daughter if that wasn’t a pretty long drive to Maryland.  “Of course not,” the daughter said, “It’s only about eight miles to River Downs.”

  • image010FREE NEEDLE UPDATE: The Blower’s Nomination for Butler County Mother of the Year is Robin C. Kelley, who brought some heroin for her son when she picked him up after he was released from jail. Agents arrested them both, along with approximately one gram of heroin, a syringe, and other drug paraphernalia.
  • BABY KILLING UPDATE: Recently, Ohio Right to Life discovered that the University of Cincinnati is advertising Planned Parenthood’s abortion services on their Women’s Center webpage. Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio recently lost its transfer agreement with the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in light of a new legislative initiative which bans ambulatory surgical facilities from having a transfer agreement with taxpayer funded hospitals. Today, Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life, sent a letter to the university President, Santa J. Ono, respectfully requesting that the university remove the abortion language from its website.
  • image012IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY: There are only five more days until the Bluegrass Primary Elections on May 20, and the Political Silly Season is in full swing. Are you sure Jesus is really on the ballot? Loony Libertarian Jim Berns must think so.

In Boondoggle County County, Judge No Moore may get four more. It’s a close race with Dedden, but he has had close crazy races before. In the commission races, it appears that Colonel Kenner will win his battle over Phyllis Diller Sparks, Chief Tom Szurlinski-Big Z is a close call with Charlie “John Boy” Walton, and Christy “Fireworks” Molozzi may beat the host of opponents including the Red Flaig.

image014Kenton continues to win the drama war on the Judge Executive race.  The attack on Arlinghaus by some of the neos and Fishwrap lovers may actually help him win over Kris “Not Chris” Knocklehead. Big Steve-O’s commercials are certainly good use of his big money war chest.  It’s a yawn fest on the commission where Draud, Sewell, and Koester will win by at least five points.  One thing’s for sure, Arlinghaus and Knocklehead won’t be calling each other on election night.  They have been slinging the personal mud for months and nobody expects this to end any time soon.  Maybe we can feature them on the first season of Blower’s Extreme Fighting-Political Candidates Edition.

In Campbell County, the commission races have tightened up a bit between Coleman and Garrett and Gail Otto and Brian Painter.  The third candidate, Lampe doesn’t have a race and his actions will be truly revealed after the primary is over.  In other words, he’s a wind sock. Speaking of wind socks, the wishy-washy Painter has gotten himself a race now and definitely in the fall. Brian Paintball is definitely fun to watch. The Coleman vs. Garrett race may be decided by the library issue and quality of the mail pieces, so we are calling that the Coach versus Gun Slinger.  The rematch Judge Executive race from 2010 has Spendery defending his record against “Give Em Hell” Sell.  Sell lost by fewer than 200 votes, so you have to think he might make it this time. The Blower admires his handling of The Fishwrap endorsement of Spendery telling the blog in Ft. Thomas that he’s glad they endorsed Stevie.

The Blower wasn’t surprised when the Apartment Association ran a poll in the Judge Executive races in Kenton and Campbell Counties. It will be interesting to see how they weigh in, especially with Spendery wasting over-taxed payers’ dollars and forcing a lawsuit with the Association!

The CamBoozler has always been fighting to get space for his Northern Kentucky stories, even 23 Years Ago This Week (when The Whistleblower used to be printed and delivered all over town), and Edition #50 came out on May 14, 1991 featuring the CamBoozler’s Report about complaints from inmates at the Campbell County Jail. To See the entire Edition #50, CLICK HERE

  • image018FINALLY, AT YESTERDAY’S MEETING OF THE CONSERVATIVE AGENDA, Sports Fans on both sides of the river were asking Beloved Whistleblower Publisher Charles Foster Kane if he planned to attend the Florence Freedom’s Peanut-Free Opening Game at Erpenbeck Stadium Thursday night. “You Bet!” Kane said. “Those guys really love the game. It’s not just the money.”

“Just think,” added Whistleblower Senior Spoiled Sports Editor Andy FurBall, “The Reds’ Joey Votto gets paid more to show up for one game than the entire Florence Freedom team makes during an entire season.”

Maybe that’s why our Quote for Today Committee chose what Babe Ruth said, when told that his offered salary was more than President Herbert Hoover’s: “I had a better year than he did.”

image024image020Remember: We never print all the bad stuff we know and certain people ought to be damn glad we don’t, especially Alecia Webb-Edgington is a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. She represents the 63rd District, which comprises part of Kenton County. Webb-Edgington was a candidate for the United States House of Representatives in the 2012 election. She sought to replace the retiring Geoff Davis in Kentucky’s 4th congressional district, but was defeated by Lewis County Judge-Executive Thomas Massie
