Today We Honor George Matzen and Mike Mundhenke

image005Emily Hemphill in today’s edition of the Milford Times (in Milford, Nebraska) says George Matzen (standing at the podium) saw the names of two former classmates engraved on the Vietnam wall: Kenny Bull and Milo Clements.

They didn’t make it home from the war.

Bull, Clements and 58,305 other Vietnam veterans who didn’t make it home hold a permanent spot on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

For Matzen, that wall means more than most others can imagine.

Matzen and Mike Mundhenke of Milford were two of 500 Nebraska Vietnam combat veterans who took an honor flight to Washington, D.C., June 6 to see the wall, along with dozens of other memorials and landmarks throughout the city.

The flight was organized by Bill and Evonne Williams of Omaha, who operate Patriotic Productions. The couple has collaborated with hundreds of corporate sponsors and volunteers over the past eight years to send more than 2,000 World War II and Korean War veterans on flights to see the memorials in D.C.
