Tonight’s Really Big Story
PAUL RYAN STILL WON’T ENDORSE TRUMP
As POLITICO’s Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan report, the much-hyped summit between the Republican House Speaker and the presumptive GOP nominee produced everything you thought it would – a swirling media scrum, soundbites, hullabaloo – but, as yet, nothing tangible. Ryan did not endorse Trump. And there was no evidence that major policy fissures had been rectified. Instead, Ryan and Trump displayed the closest thing to unity they could muster. “The United States cannot afford another four years of the Obama White House, which is what Hillary Clinton represents. That is why it’s critical that Republicans unite around our shared principles, advance a conservative agenda, and do all we can to win this fall,” Trump and Ryan said in a joint statement following their hour-long meeting. James Comey, the director, said that while he could offer no statistical proof, he believed after speaking with a number of police officials that a “viral video effect” — with officers wary of confronting suspects for fear of ending up on a video — “could well be at the heart” of a spike in violent crime in some cities.

HOUSE GOP WINS OBAMACARE LAWSUIT
The Daily Caller says while Hillary says that, if elected, she would start going after guns on Day One of her theoretical presidency, Americans appear to be doing their level best to make sure Clinton would have a whole lot of guns and gun owners to tackle. The FBI reports that every month for the past year has broken a record for firearm-related background checks in that month. That is, there were more checks in May 2015 than in any previous May, more in June 2015 than in any previous June, and so on from month to month, through April 2016.

Truth Revolt says Managing Microaggressions” is the latest event to hit the University of Virginia, where students can learn how not to poke fun at people’s food or clothing choices and can share the most traumatic human rights abuses they’ve experienced on campus. Among the worst microagressions one can experience, according to students, is simply being “American.” After all, according to the U of Virginia event, the U.S. “has decided to take it upon itself to identify as an entire hemisphere [and that is] the most blatant microaggression in the context of this country.”

Newsweek’s Twitter page on Tuesday hyped, “Has there been any president cooler than Obama?” The magazine, which barely publishes these days, features contributions from a website called Quora. That article wondered, “OBAMA, THE FIRST POP CULTURE PRESIDENT?”
