Today’s Good News And Bad News
From Our Local Political Junkie We’ll Call “Cincy Dave”

The Clinton campaign is pulling all TV ads and appearances from Virginia for now.   If you thought that might be good news for Trump, you may be wrong.  It’s just that the campaign is so confident in winning Virginia that they believe the money and candidate’s time would be better spent elsewhere.   Virginia, once a reliable Republican Old-South state, has been a swing state in the last few elections, but is definitely trending blue now, especially with Tim Kaine on the ticket.     Earlier, the Campaign pulled out of swingy Colorado for the same reasons.   Is this over-confidence?   Maybe, but probably not.

MELANIA TRUMP IMMIGRATION CONTROVERSY
The hot nude photos of Melania Trump sparked a controversy about her story on how she managed to immigrate to the U.S.     It seems that some sharp-eyed viewers noted inconsistencies in the photo dates, her story’s time line and the type of U.S. entry visa that she came here with.    Most visas of the type she claimed to have don’t permit the holder to work while here, and if she was modeling, that is considered work, even if all she had to do was take off her clothes.   This could lead to real problems down the road if there were any false statements to questions (such as, “what is the purpose of your trip?”) to immigration officials at the airport, or on the applications for a Green Card or subsequent Citizenship.  In a worst-case scenario, it could even mean loss of citizenship.    Reporters and other self-appointed investigators will be digging deeper, so we may not have heard the last of this.   We could start a good conspiracy theory right here: – Could the president be behind this, seeking to get even with The Donald for all of Donald’s Birth Certificate allegations?  Probably not, but wouldn’t it be funny if the head Birther’s wife was the one who turned out to be a non-citizen? (Gaps in Melania Trump’s immigration story raise questions)

To make matters worse, Trump is being sued by a Jamaican fashion model who came here to work for a Trump modeling agency.   Trump promised to pay her 75,000 dollars but actually paid only a fraction of that.  (sound familiar?)   Several other of Trump’s foreign models may be in the same situation, (especially the ones that he image008didn’t marry).   Immigration laws require workers to be paid prevailing wages to keep from undercutting American workers’ wages.    If Trump used the immigration process to cheat workers,  he would be in violation of those laws.  Wouldn’t it be funny if the anti-immigrant candidate was the one violating immigration laws?    We probably haven’t heard the last of this one either.

DOUBLE, DOUBLE, TURMOIL, AND TROUBLE
Turmoil in the Republican Party escalated as party leaders, strategists and donors voiced increased alarm about the flailing state of Donald Trump’s candidacy and fears that the presidential nominee was damaging the party with an extraordinary image080week of self-inflicted mistakes, gratuitous attacks and missed opportunities.  Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus was described as “very frustrated” with and deeply disturbed by Trump’s behavior over the past week, having run out of excuses to make on the nominee’s behalf to donors and other party leaders, according to multiple people familiar with the events.  Meanwhile, Trump’s top campaign advisers are struggling once again to instill discipline in their candidate, who has spent recent days lurching from one controversy to another while seemingly skipping chances to go on the offensive against his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.  “A new level of panic hit the street,” said longtime operative Scott Reed, chief strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “It’s time for a serious reset.”

image071KAHN FAMILY CONTROVERSY CONTINUES
Khizr Khan may become known as the guy who brought down Donald Trump, thereby ensuring that the memory of his son lives on.   A hundred years from now, students of political history, visiting Arlington National Cemetery, will note the grave of Captain Humayan Khan.   Here’s the backstory behind how the Khan family came to the stage, and the way Trump completely mishandled it. (How Donald Trump brought Khizr Khan to the DNC stage) CNN has seemingly spent hundreds of hours of air time on this story.

ATTACK DOG OR CLEAN-UP MAN?
At a North Carolina Rally for the Trump/Pence Cartoonist Gary Varvel: Trump's mouthpiece is Gov. Mike Pencecampaign, an 11 Year-old boy spoke to Mike Pence, “I’ve noticed you’ve been softening up on Trump’s words and policies. Is this going to be your role in the administration?” the boy asked Pence as the crowd erupted in laughter.“What I’ve learned, Matthew, and you’ll learn it when you’re governor of North Carolina … Sometimes things don’t come out the way that you mean them,” Pence said. “I couldn’t be more proud to stand with Donald Trump,” Pence added.   [READ MORE HERE]

MORE MEANINGLESS POLLS
Although we said a couple of days ago that National Polls were meaningless, this one may carry a bit more meaning than usual.    A recent Fox News poll has Hillary ahead of Trump by 10 Points.   If you’re a Republican Candidate and Fox has you down this much, then you know image009you’re in, what Papa Bush would call, “deep doo-doo.” You won’t hear Trump bragging about this poll, but if anyone asks him about it, he’ll just claim it’s the “liberal media”, cause everyone knows Fox is a big part of that.  Karl Rove may be starting his melt-down three months early this year.   If you listen carefully on Fox you can hear him in the background, shouting, “but Ohio hasn’t been polled yet.”  Megyn will have to explain the Fox Poll to him, as she walks around showing off those legs[READ MORE HERE

Although it is still very early in the game, these are all swing states and you know the campaigns are watching them carefully.
