Today’s Good News And Bad News

From Our Local Political Junkie We’ll Call Cincy Dave

image003Today, there is again no good news for anyone.  The murder of police officers in Dallas and the police killings of two black men still dominate the news.  This is ripe for political exploitation because it combines two of the biggest issues in America – race and guns.  Politicians, of course, reacted differently:

President Obama announced that he will cut short his European trip and visit Dallas. It sounds like a really bad idea to go to a place where they have a history of ex-military guys with rifles shooting at public officials from the upper floors of downtown buildings.   We advise extreme caution.

Trying to take advantage of the situation, the Trumpster stuck his foot in it again yesterday, when he contacted the NYPD and asked to address a roll call of officers.     Police commissioner William Bratton turned down his request, stating, “Our interest is staying out of the politics of the moment, not to provide photo ops.” When that came out, Trump denied that he even made the request.      Apparently, we are supposed to believe that the police commissioner just made it all up so he could issue a statement about it.   Of course, it may be possible that the request was made by one of Trump’s alter-egos, either John Barron or John Miller. We will probably never know.

He also tried to combine the email issue with the tragedies by tweeting the following:  “Isn’t it sad that on a day of national tragedy Hillary Clinton is answering softball questions about her email lies on @CNN?”

And just to make sure that he keeps his reputation as unpredictable, Trump also hinted that if he wins in November, he may decline to serve as president.   Nobody took him seriously but it did feed into all kinds of conspiracy theories; that he is a Democratic mole in the Republican party or that he is just in it to promote his business interests, or it is merely an ego trip.   There is something to be said for any of these theories.  It is even remotely possible that all three are true.

HILLARY TRIED AS MUCH AS SHE COULD TO ACT LIKE THE ADULT IN THE ROOM, taking both sides by saying that we must listen to the cries of our African-American fellow citizens and also saying that “I mourn for the officers shot while doing their sacred duty to protect peaceful protesters, for their families and all who serve with them.”

RUNNING HARD TO BE TRUMP’S VP PICK, THE NEWT ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT:

“It took me a long time, and a number of people talking to me through the years to get a sense of this. If you are a normal, white American, the truth is you don’t understand being black in America and you instinctively under-estimate the level of discrimination and the level of additional risk.”

This was an amazing statement from someone that called Obama “The food stamp president” and said that he exhibited Kenyan Anti-Colonialist behavior. Always the politician, Newt will say whatever he thinks will do him the most good at the time.

WE WILL REVIEW MY VP PROBABILITIES FOR BOTH CANDIDATES IN THE NEXT UPDATE.image004image017image018
