Today We Honor “Just A Common Soldier”

“Just A Common Soldier” is a deeply moving poem about an old Veteran who told his war stories before he passed away and the kind of men that these Veterans are. The poem is also known as “A Soldier Died Today” and was written and published by Canadian veteran and columnist A. Lawrence Vaincourt in 1987.

The poem asks if you want a politician or a soldier by your side when the going gets tough and for me the answer will always be I’ll take the common Soldier, Sailor, or Marine any day.
