Today We Honor MIT Police Officer Sean Collier Who Died In The Line Of Duty

image004This weekend as we pause to remember, we honor 26-year-old Sean Collier, an MIT police officer, who was killed in that late night confrontation with the Muslim Terrorists behind the deadly Boston Marathon Massacre in 2013. Collier had served as a member of the MIT Police since Jan. 9, 2012, following service as a civilian employee with the Somerville Police Department. He was single and a native of Wilmington, Mass.

Collier graduated from Salem State University in 2009 with honors and a degree in criminal justice. Kristen Kuehnle, the chairwoman of the school’s criminal justice department, remembered Collier from a course she teaches on Women in Criminal Justice. He was a student who always participated in class, asked questions, and wrote well. “He was everything you would want in a police officer,” Kuehnle said.

“Sean was one of these guys who really looked at police work as a calling,” said MIT Police Chief John DiFava. “He was born to be a police officer.”

Through tears, a roommate — who trained with Collier at the police academy and declined to provide his name — said Collier was “awesome,” his only fault being that he was too brave. “He was the guy who went to help,” the roommate said. “The best guy got shot down.’’

The Blower is pleased to honor Officer Collier, because Blue Lives Matter, too.
